以物件的收藏為始,現代博物館的起源,伴隨於人們用於展示收藏奇珍異寶的一件家具的出現:珍奇櫃 cabinet of curiosities。
16世紀文藝復興時期的歐洲,當時的貴族、學者與富商們熱衷於各種稀奇收藏,於是,好奇心通過審美的眼光、個人品味的逸趣,對知識或奇聞想像的熱衷,成為了空間中充滿故事與話題的焦點。 如同珍奇櫃一般,擷取了各形各色的斑斕碎片,穿插點綴了生命沿途的敘事風景、美的繆思與收藏;從記憶到嚮往,從日常到奇想,居所空間儼然成為充滿個人印記與風格融合的奇幻拼貼。
The origins of modern museums can be traced back to the art of collecting, embodied in a singular piece of furniture crafted to display rare marvels—the Cabinet of Curiosities.
In 16th-century Renaissance Europe, nobles, scholars, and wealthy merchants were enthralled by the pursuit of the extraordinary. Through an aesthetic lens—shaped by personal taste and an insatiable curiosity for knowledge and the unknown—they transformed their collections into realms brimming with stories, imagination, and wonder.
Like a cabinet of curiosities, where fragments of fascination are artfully arranged, our living spaces, too, unfold as a curated tapestry of narratives—woven with musings on beauty, cherished memories, and whispered aspirations. From recollections to reveries, from the ordinary to the extraordinary, the home becomes a poetic tableau of personal imprints, where styles and influences intertwine to compose a realm of intrigue and enchantment.

進入玄關,象牙般的米色於壁面暈染出柔和的質地;空間中的層次肌理,透出膚色般純粹朦朧的氣息,恍若午寐的慵懶與親暱。
沿著餐廳的兩道橫樑劃出對稱的佈局,延伸的底牆靜謐之中暗藏起伏轉折的弧線;壁面以簡練的手法,透過弧型內崁,創造壁龕般的展示端景。兩側寢室的入口,藉以上方及單側外包且突顯的弧型結構,既保留了進出空間,突出的立體裝飾效果,更賦予延展了空間內在的戲劇性與張力。
Upon stepping into the entryway, a soft ivory hue gently blooms across the walls, infusing the space with a delicate, textured depth. The interplay of surfaces exudes a hazy purity—an almost skin-like translucence, evoking the languid intimacy of an afternoon slumber.
In the dining area, two horizontal beams define a symmetrical composition, while the extended back wall, serene yet subtly undulating, reveals a quiet rhythm of curves. The walls, shaped with restrained elegance, feature arched recesses that form alcove-like display niches, adding a sculptural presence to the space. Framing the entrances to the bedrooms, an cylindrical structure—wrapping around the upper and lateral edges—preserves the openness of circulation while introducing a striking, dimensional accent. This architectural gesture not only amplifies the space’s theatricality but also enriches its depth with a quiet yet undeniable tension.

結構性的裝飾浮現為想像的符號,如殿堂的宏偉遺跡;夢幻的色彩灑落其間亦如墜入愛麗絲的兔子洞。屋主收藏的藝術品與擺件,妝點為奇幻的寓言;而像似荒誕文學中離經叛道的奇思異想,竟也能透過家具物件躍於現實。
客餐廳間彼此敞開呼應,造型拙趣而雅致的餐椅、幾何鑲嵌飾板的山形端景櫃,以及有如沾染了糖粉的吧檯凳;餐桌點綴一束果實般綺麗異色的玻璃吊燈,則是來自溫哥華充滿實驗與藝術性的燈具品牌 Bocci , 在藝術色彩與古樸意趣的工藝之美間,碰撞出新穎的效果。
Structural ornamentation emerges as imagined symbols—reminiscent of the grand relics of ancient halls. Dreamlike hues cascade through the space, as if tumbling into Alice’s rabbit hole. The homeowner’s curated artworks and objets d’art weave a tapestry of whimsical allegories, where the rebellious fantasies of absurdist literature seem to materialize, leaping from the realm of fiction into tangible reality.
The living and dining areas unfold in open dialogue, where sculptural dining chairs—both playfully rustic and refined—stand in harmony with a mountain-shaped sideboard adorned with geometric inlays. Nearby, barstools dusted with a sugar-powdered softness lend a dreamlike charm to the space. At the heart of the dining table, a luminous bouquet of jewel-toned glass pendants from Bocci—a Vancouver-based studio celebrated for its experimental artistry—sparks a striking interplay between vivid chromatic allure and the raw poetry of craftsmanship.

開放區域中,具有藝術背景的義大利設計師 Francesco Binfarè, 於千禧年初為義大利家具品牌 Edra 所設計一張自由不羈、宛如軟雕塑般的沙發 “On The Rocks”,承襲自70年代激進設計的精神,以歐洲最大的陸間海 —— 地中海的岩岸為靈感;其開放的雙面向,以及能任意調整的活動靠墊,將原來顯得狹長的客廳,調動為靈活自如、敞開流動的起居空間。
In the open-plan area, Italian designer Francesco Binfarè, known for his artistic background, introduced a bold, freeform vision with “On the Rocks”—a sofa designed for Edra in the early 2000s. Echoing the radical spirit of 1970s design, this sculptural piece draws inspiration from the coastline of the Mediterranean—the vast cradle of European civilization. With its open, dual-facing form and adjustable cushions, it transforms the once narrow, elongated living room into a fluid and dynamic space, redefining the flow of daily life.

另一端霓虹曖昧的波浪鏡 “Ultrafragola”,直譯為頗具超現實意味的「超級草莓」;如粉色奶昔般發光的波浪鏡框,靈感卻是女人的波浪捲髮。
Ultrafragola 來自義大利後現代設計教父 Ettore Sottsass,於1970年為了諷喩調侃當時如槁木死灰般的現代主義,而設計一系列的單色調家具中,唯一一件自帶螢光,深具誘惑與反叛魅力的前衛經典。如遊走想像的邊界之門 ,Ultrafragola 融合了70年代的挑釁精神、享樂主義的媚俗歡快, 散發感官逸樂的情調。
裝飾風格的細節,地毯延續同為 Ettore Sottsass 所創立的孟菲斯設計 (Memphis Design Group) 中繽紛靈動的色塊,搭配以復古堆疊玩具為靈感的邊桌與咖啡桌上童話氛圍的燭火擺件;裝飾物件成為不經意的線索,流露未泯的玩心。
On the opposite wall, the neon-lit Ultrafragola mirror shimmers with an ambiguous allure. Its name, which translates to the surreal-sounding ‘Super Strawberry,’ carries a sense of whimsical boldness, yet its undulating, milkshake-pink glow takes inspiration from the flowing waves of a woman’s hair.
Designed in 1970 by Ettore Sottsass, the godfather of Italian postmodernism, Ultrafragola was conceived as a rebellious counterpoint to the lifeless austerity of modernism. Among a series of monochromatic furniture pieces, it was the only one infused with an electric, seductive glow—an avant-garde classic steeped in provocation and mystique. Like a portal straddling the edges of imagination, Ultrafragola embodies the provocative spirit of the 1970s, blending playful hedonism with kitsch exuberance, radiating an air of sensory indulgence.
Echoing this spirit, the rug extends the vibrant, dynamic color-blocking of Memphis Design Group, the influential movement founded by Sottsass himself. Playful nostalgia weaves through the space—side tables with stacked, toy-like forms and a ceramic candlelight imagery ornament resting atop the coffee table. Here, décor becomes a trail of subtle clues, hinting at a childlike sense of wonder.

轉入客臥,將開放起居空間的奇幻色譜引入。如晨霞染上雲霧 ,明媚的柔粉沿著床頭飄散於橫梁,漸層壁紙不著痕跡地淡化了低矮的樑柱,床頭造型鮮明的波浪飾邊襯上粉橘條紋的寢枕,亦巧妙地轉移了焦點。
一旁的梳妝椅,選自義大利最具代表性的女性設計師之一, Cini Boeri 於1973 年所設計的 “Botolo Chair”。“Botolo”在義大利文中意謂 「混種的小狗」,以三支標誌性的圓管支撐圓潤椅身,圓管內藏可移動的滾輪;渾圓流暢的輪廓披上黑白千鳥格紋,宛如一件精巧的時尚單品。
Stepping into the guest bedroom, the similar whimsical spectrum of the living space gently carries through. Like dawn’s first light tinting the morning mist, a delicate blush diffuses across the overhead beam, softening its presence with a seamless gradient of wallpaper. The headboard, with its striking wave-like trim, along with striped cushions in shades of peach and pink, subtly draws the eye away from the room’s structural lines.
As the vanity chair, the Botolo Chair—designed in 1973 by Cini Boeri, one of Italy’s most influential female designers—brings a playful yet sophisticated presence. Named after the Italian word for “mutt,” Botolo rests on three signature tubular legs, each concealing hidden casters for effortless movement. Draped in a classic black-and-white houndstooth, its rounded, sculptural form takes on the allure of a finely tailored fashion piece.

主臥以女主人所喜愛加州濱海復古時髦的風格為基調,壁面飾以雪花石膏般的葉紋浮雕壁紙;兩側一對雕花玻璃的球形壁燈,清透發散的光影有如捕捉一縷暖陽的鋒芒 。大面的圓弧造型床頭飾版覆以濃郁的棕色表布,大地暖意映襯著自然意象的肌理,同色系織品深淺層次的紋樣織花,化為一襲優雅靈敏的時尚觸覺。
兩間衛浴延續了簡約高雅的底蘊 ,分別以米白洞石襯上鮭魚粉色、雕刻紫紋的大理石;壁面疊加的燈飾,無論是緞金的拉絲金屬、白玉柔雅的光暈,又或是透過翻鑄玻璃交熾的瀲灧光影 ,精心妝點為時髦別致的梳洗空間。
The master bedroom is infused with the vintage coastal chic aesthetic beloved by the homeowner. The walls are adorned with leaf-patterned relief wallpaper, reminiscent of alabaster’s soft veining, while a pair of sculpted glass globe sconces on either side cast diffused, luminous reflections—like catching the fleeting warmth of the sun. A grand, arched headboard upholstered in deep brown fabric anchors the space, its earthy warmth echoing the organic textures throughout. Layered in tonal variations, the woven patterns of the textiles transform into a refined, tactile expression of elegance and ease.
Echoing the home’s understated sophistication, the two bathrooms unfold in distinct yet harmonious palettes. One pairs creamy travertine with salmon-hued marble, while the other contrasts it against the rich veining of Calacatta Viola. Layered lighting—whether in satin gold metal, the soft glow of white jade, or the shimmering refractions of cast-glass fixtures—lends an artful polish, elevating these intimate spaces into vignettes of contemporary refinement.

從空間架構、動線佈局到裝飾細節,生活軌跡的伏筆以及家具擺件與藝術收藏,當代室內空間的呈現,亦能如同19世紀德國劇作家華格納所提出「總體藝術 (Gesamtkunstwerk) 」的結晶,不再侷限區分於各自領域的功能;大膽融合,彼此協調交織出層次更為豐富、多面,且富有個性的空間整體。
The chamber of curiosities ,透過非比尋常的形體物件、裝飾語法,引人遐思的不是幻境,或許,更是生活的本身。
From spatial composition and circulation to decorative details, every element—whether the subtle cues of daily rhythms or the interplay of furniture, objets d’art, and collected works—contributes to the larger narrative of contemporary interiors. Much like the Gesamtkunstwerk envisioned by 19th-century German playwright Richard Wagner, the modern living space transcends rigid categorizations of function. Instead, it dares to embrace a bold synthesis, where disciplines converge in layered harmony, shaping an environment that is multidimensional, expressive, and deeply personal.
The chamber of curiosities—an assemblage of extraordinary forms and decorative syntax that invites the imagination. What it evokes is not an illusion, but life itself.
